Hamburgers always seem to steal the backyard BBQ thunder but what about the much over-looked, good ole' Hot Dog? I mean what's more American than a Hot Dog- don't answer that. They are inexpensive, fast, easy and come without all the fickle temperature variations of traditional burgers. Just in time for those summer gatherings we went into the Blue Oak test kitchen (it's a grill out back surrounded by really great looking patio furniture) to come up with these 4 fun twists on the traditional dog.

Buffalo Blue Hot Dog

  • Pretzel Bun
  • Frank's Red Hot
  • Blue Cheese Crumbles
  • Celery sliced thin
  • Leaves of Celery to Garnish

Southern Benedictine Hot Dog

  • Pretzel Bun
  • Benedictine Spread
  • Fresh Cucumber sliced thin
  • Red Onion sliced thin
  • Toasted Sesame Seeds

Caprese Hot Dog

  • Fresh Heirloom Tomatoes
  • Diced Fetta or Fresh Mozzarella
  • Fresh Oregano and Basil Leaves
  • Drizzle with Balsamic or other Vinaigrette

Southwest Hot Dog

  • Grilled Corn
  • Black Beans
  • Pico de Gallo
  • Fresh Cilantro
  • Sliced Fresh Jalapeños
  • Chipotle Cream Drizzle (we mixed sour cream with chipotle sauce)
  • Garnish with a slice of Lime
